Its Monday 23rd June and news from Stanley Safari Lodge

Another week has flown by and Its Monday again. Hope you enjoyed the weekend.  This Monday we will here from Brinsley and Kate, the assistant managers at Stanley Safari Lodge. Over to them:

Hello to everyone from a chilly Stanley Safari Lodge in Livingstone! Its our fourth month here and we are certainly in the middle of winter with everyone wrapping up warm for the cool evenings and nippy mornings – a perfect excuse to make the most of our fires!

We have greatly enjoyed getting our teeth stuck into everything here and so would love to introduce you all to us and the Stanley team. I am British-American, and ended up in Zambia after falling in love with the country whilst on a safari holiday. Brinsley is a Zimbabwean who hopped over the river a few years ago and we met while working in the South Luangwa. After a few years of living in the bush we decided it was time for a change and got the opportunity to move to Livingstone. Although we do miss the sounds and the smells of the bush, we do have the luxury of being serenaded by the lions that live next door (on the other side of the fence – don’t worry!) every morning, so it is a little reminder!

The newest member of the Robin Pope family, Stanley Safari Lodge has been around since 2001, as has a lot of the staff. They have made it so easy for us to settle in here and have really helped us to learn the ropes. Since a lot of them all come from nearby Mukuni Village, they are all a great source of the cultural heritage of the area and never fail to entertain the guests with their stories and on occasion, their singing and drumming!

One of our favourite aspects of Stanley has to be the view, overlooking the Falls and the Zambezi River. It truly is breathtaking, even more so in the evening when you get the most spectacular sunsets right in front of the Lodge. Just what the doctor ordered after a long day’s work (in our case) and a long day of fun activities (for the guests)!

Of course, we have been working super hard (our bosses are reading – we have to say that!) but we have also had the opportunity to enjoy a couple of the activities that we hear the guests raving about so often. The highlight for both of us was without a doubt a helicopter ride in a Huey (no doors!!). To have the chance to view the Falls from above was incredible, as we got to witness the sheer magnitude and power of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World…it reminded us how lucky we are to live here!

That’s about it from us at Stanley, we hope you all have a lovely day and come to visit us soon – back to you, Emily!

Lovely to hear from you both – thanks Brinsley and Kate!

Well thats it for this Monday. Hope the rest of the week goes well for you.
