Its Monday and full steam ahead at Pumulani

The summer rains have come and gone at Pumulani and where enjoying the endless sunny days with a slight drop of temperature, the only real difference between summer and winter. With the change of season we are getting busier with guests, most of whom have visited our sister lodge Mkulumadzi or one of the Zambian Lodges. The guests are full of stories bout their great safari adventure, and they have now arrived on the sandy shores of Lake Malawi.

Guests set their own pace here at Pumulani with a number of activities on offer. Snorkelling has been very popular and the water visibility is great. Guests take a motor boat trip along the shoreline of the Lake Malawi National Park, towards Otter Point or Thumbi West Island for the best snorkelling.

One of our most popular activities here at Pumulani is our sunset dhow trip. At the beginning of the year we retired our dhow thats been with us since the very beginning of Pumulani Lodge and received a new 10.5m Dhow named Nkhwanzi. Built locally by master craftsman Mr Msofi and his team, one of the last traditional dhow builders left in Malawi. Our retired dhow has however been somewhat modified and has been preserved for our guests to enjoy.

The relative coolness of winter allows our guests to explore a bit further afield. Mountain Biking is gaining in popularity at Pumulani with a vast network of trails and paths used by the villagers to get between the villages. We visit the various community projects within our local village or visit the Nankhwali mission with its great view of Lake Malawi. Its a great way to see the countryside and meet the locals.

In the evenings, away from the bright lights of towns or cities and perched ontop of a rocky outcrop near our dining area is our telescope, a perfect spot to enjoy the night sky. The clear nights have been perfect for stargazing with Venus and Jupiter being the highlights and for those that choose to stay up later, Saturn.

Sounds wonderful, thanks Charl and Dominique!

So on that note have a wonderful week wherever you are and whatever you are doing, laugh lots and look after each other.
